Through the reception windows, I can see the pool is set up in 50m lanes, but it is extremely busy with a swim squad session taking up six of the eight lanes.",[12,22,23],{},"Fortunately, I can see the two public lanes on the near side have only two swimmers between them. Pay the $8 entrance fee and head to the locker room.",[12,25,26],{},"Out onto the very busy pool deck. Love a swim session with decent music blasting from a boombox!",[12,28,29],{},"Immediately in front of me is a very slim three-lane 25-yard pool, currently hosting a rather energetic water Zumba session. Beyond that is the main 50m pool, with plenty of white water from the sprint 50s being bashed out by the swim squad.",[12,31,32],{},"Pick my lane and jump in with a kid who looks like he should be fast. He's finishing a drill as I hop in. Give him the customary quick hello and ask if we should circle swim. He doesn't seem too impressed. I think he's expecting me to get in his way. He gives me a 'yeah, but let me go first' as he puts on a pair of fins. Catch him at the first turn, and I think we have a better understanding of how this is going to play out. He doesn't last another five minutes before he's out and gone, leaving me with a lane to myself.",[12,34,35],{},"Put 1km on the watch, then break the rest down into a 400, some 200s and a bunch of 100s. Finish with a standard 3.2km session, all the while trying not to race the kids in the next lane doing 50s off the blocks.",[12,37,38],{},"Two things stand out.",[12,40,41],{},"The shallow end has a strange slope in the final couple of feet before the wall. It makes me think quickly during the first few turns at that end, as it looks odd underwater until I get familiar with it.",[12,43,44],{},"The water also has a rather chemical taste and leaves me with that old furry-mouth feeling.
