Most southern pool in mainland USA?
Evening swim - and the second pool of the day!
Quick weekend trip down to Key West - and there’s a lap pool six minutes from my hotel!
The Richard Roth Marine Public Safety Annex didn’t sound like a public swim lap pool, and I wasn’t sure the photos online were of the actual pool, but considering Apple maps suggests it’s only six minutes away, may as well go see!
The pool is located on the ground of what seems to be a school combined with a community center, hospital, college and the Key West garbage dump!
Quick change and sunscreen-up in the unisex restroom (no actual changing rooms) and have my choice of lanes and the pool to myself, it’s late afternoon but the sun’s still hot + this is a bonus second swim of the day so don’t plan much more than a short 1500 yards.
The only pool staff member is currently giving a one-on-one kids swim lesson but points to the furthest lanes as the others will soon be pulled out ready for a pool party! Finish up my swim and jump out just as the inflatable flamingos and party guests arrive!
Whilst the facilities are basic, they have everything you need for a quick swim in a fantastic location (including a pace clock) - all for $5! (and still beats my ‘home’ pool Wyndley on every level).

This may be the first pool i've encountered where there aren't actually any changing facilities, just a single unisex toilet - but that really doesn't matter. The pool is basic but perfect for the location, right on the gulf of Mexico nortern tip of key west.
