Llandudno Swimming Centre

Back in beautiful Snowdonia, North Wales for a few days of mountain biking at some local bike parks. Last week offered spectacular sunshine, and next week promises the same - but, of course, we've picked the week sandwiched with rain!

After weeks of recovery, my hand has healed sufficiently to get back on the bike. However, my right knee decided it needed attention too, so while my friends hit the Marin Trail for a few laps, I opted for a gentler morning, heading 30 minutes north to Llandudno for a swim.

Arriving in Llandudno, I parked up and immediately felt that classic, British seaside towns salt-air smell!

Llandudno Swimming Centre enjoys a prime spot right on the seafront. The facility is impressively modern, spacious, and meticulously clean. Walking onto the pool deck, I was greeted by an excellent eight-lane, 25m pool (possibly 25m by 25m). The pool was divided into half, four lanes designated for lap swimming and the other half for a public swim session.

Considering it was midday on a weekday, the pool was busy, the extra pool width really does make a difference.! Ready to dive back into serious swimming after a month's break, I joined the fast lane, finding myself alongside three swimmers working through and organised training session.

The pool’s moveable floor was set surprisingly shallow—just 0.99 meters according to the digital board—my fingertips brushing the bottom with each stroke! Started out with a steady mile (1.6km) and finised up the 3.2km with some shorter sets.

Fantastic to be back in action and ticking off another great pool from my list.

There was possible opportunity for a bonus second pool - there is a smaller shallow 'learner' (20m?) pool with lanes marked in the pool floor tiles. Decided it might look at bit weird if I jumped in an bashed out another 1km!
