First swim in the Florida Keys!

So this one caught me out and was a good reminder of why I always check the watch for pace on the first 100… It’s one of those rare metre pools in the US! So, reset the Garmin swim watch after the first 150m, set the correct pool length and start again!

Another tropical swim in a great pool under blue skies, with crystal clear water, diving boards with a deep diving-come-scuba-diving-pit, a kid’s pool with great slides and eight lap swim lanes below the giant digital pace board.

The Key Largo coastline features the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, and the Jacobs Aquatic Center includes a scuba training program. Two trainee divers use the diving pit for their pool-based training while I complete my 2150-meter swim.

Swim done, time to head two hours south down the spectacular US 1 overseas highway for a Key West weekend.
