Early Morning Swim in the Home of the Goonies!
Started the day with an early morning swim at Astoria Aquatic Centre. Paid the $8 entry and jumped into the pool - the water was cold, but in the best way. Perfect for waking up and getting a solid swim in.
The pool had music playing from a local hits radio station, which kept things lively, and there's some great artwork around the building that adds a cool vibe. After the swim, I hopped into the large hot tub for a quick warm-up - a perfect contrast to the cold water.
I'm on a daily 2km routine at the moment, and today's swim was at an easy pace. Knocked out 1km straight, then went for some shorter sets: 2x200, 2x150, 2x100, and 2x50.
Afterwards, I grabbed breakfast at Ping 'n Pancake - because you can't swim without pancakes, right?
Halloween's getting close, and it felt like almost every house in the area had some kind of decoration up. Before heading out, I made a quick stop at the Goonies house (because, obviously), then drove out to Canon Beach to see Haystack Rock. After that, it was a scenic drive down the 101, then inland along the Wilson River Highway from Tillamook towards Portland.
Of the hundreds of pools on the list, the Astoria Aquatic Centre is one of the few faraway pools I often think about often. I love Astoria and the whole state of Oregon, it's one of my favourite places in the world. The people are friendly, the food is great, and the scenery is stunning. I can't wait to go back.
